What is the difference between HPL lockers and plywood lockers?

When buying a locker, most people put the quality and durability in priority.Traditional lockers made of steel, MDF(medium desity ), wooden now are less and less used for lockers. HPL and Plywood are two types of common available alternatives to a locker. But when people intend to customize a locker, they don’t clearly know about the difference between HPL lockers and plywood lockers. To help you learn more about details of that, we are here to give you more information. Read on to learn how to choose the right locker material for your needs.

1. Composition

HPL lockers, is made by HPL, a hign pressure laminate board also called compact laminate or solid phenolic board. HPL is a hard, dense material. Jialifu hpl board is made of decorative colored paper that contains leaching melamine resin. In addition, stacking multi-layer black or brown kraft paper that contains phenolic aldehyde or urea-formaldehyde resin up. Then, using steel plate to suppress on the state 150 Celsius degree 1430 psi.

Plywood lockers is made from sheets of wood called veneer, whereas laminates can be manufactured from high-density fiber, melamine resin or wood particles. In case of laminated wood, the wood veneers are pasted parallel to each other, as opposed to the right angles in plywood. Jialifu plywood lockers which are a kind of material produced from thin layer or “plies” of wood splint to suppress together can reduce the tendency of each panel to split when nailing at the edges; The locker also won’t get expanded or shrunk and it makes the strength of the panel consistent across all direction. The thickness panel of the plywood locker can be 18mm-25mm with a strong function of moisture proof relating to a smooth and well-touch surface.

2. Advantage and disadvantage

HPL lockers and plywood lockers overcome the shortage of traditional lockers, they have many remarkable characteristics. Here is the compare between them.

However, HPL lockers are the most commonly thought of as durable lockers but are extremely heavy. This lockers are also not color throughout and most known for their black core exposed edges. And it is little more expensive than other kinds of lockers.

If laminated plywood is used, that material may experience delamination if water or other liquids are able to seep between the layers. The biggest issue with wood as a locker material is the fact that it is porous, meaning it will absorb odors as well. The odors can compound and create an unwelcome situation not only within a locker, but within a room or corridor where they are located. The porosity of the wood implies that its ability to contribute as a food source for the growth of mold.

3. Recyclable or not

As the compact laminate is in high density and fire-proof, it is hard for a compact laminate board wasted to be recycled or let it natural degrading itself. So the compact laminate wastes needs to be collected and sent to smelting plant into industrial incinerator, the compact laminate would be burned under the high temperature of industrial incinerator.

While plywood can be recycled.

4. Appearance

HPL lockers can be chose in a series of colors, like the solid color, wood color, metallic color and etc. Which color you choose represents which lockers style you want to have. The solid color means simple and neat. The wood color means exquisite and elegant. But there is less color to choose for Plywood lockers. In addition, the locker door options in Jialifu can be divided into the single tier lockers, double tier lockers, three tier lockers, four tier lockers, five tier lockers and z shape lockers. But because of the composition, the plywood locker is not easy to made as the special shape locker like “Z” .
